Drama of the Age
An Exposition of the Book of Revelation
by John Carroll Brown

439 pages, including: a table of contents,
nine appendices, notated bibliography, an index,
and a prefacewritten by the author.

Drama of the Age is written so that the average person can read and understand its message.  It presents a unique approach, giving many readers a grasp of Revelation which they  never had before.

The post-millennial view of the 1000 year reign is advocated.  The saints undergo persecution and death because of the working of Satan, the Dragon.  The Millennium is a long period of peace and prosperity in which the people of God are the dominant influence in the world.  Satan's of  deceit and persecution is caused to cease during the 1000 years, as Satan is confined to the bottomless pit until the 1000 years are completed.  After the millennium he is released, and deceit and persecution are renewed for a brief time.  Then Christ comes to pour out God's wrath on the forces of evil, destroying them.  Then He judges the living and the dead.  This is followed by the people of God being taken to their eternal home.  They are seen descending to the new heaven and new earth as the beautiful bride of Christ adorned for her husband, the New Jerusalem coming down out of heaven to the new earth.  There God and the Lamb will dwell in their midst throughout eternity.

"Things that shall take place hereafter" are found in two sections. The first section is entitled Preparation for the Drama, including Rev. chapters 4 - 11; and the second is The Drama of the Age in Seven Acts, including Rev. 12:1 - 22:5The drama ends with a postlude in the rest of chapter 22.

The Introduction, which is somewhat heavier reading than the main body, presents the writer of Revelation, the date of its writing, the theories of its interpretation, the principles of interpretation used by the author, and an outline of the book of Revelation.

Drama of the Age is composed of an introduction and 22 chapters.  The chapters are divided into three sections.  The first is Things that John Saw and Things that Are, including Rev. chapters 1 - 3.  These provide the background for the drama. The second and third sections are the two mentioned above.

There are nine appendices explaining, among other thing, the source and interpretation of some of the symbolism used in the book of Revelation, including the heavenly temple, God's Israel, the seven-headed Beast, the two-horned beast or False Prophet, the millennium, and Gog and Magog.
